Check any page's title, meta description, canonical, robots, Open Graph and Twitter tags, hreflang, H1s and JSON-LD, with length warnings and a search result preview.
How to use the Meta Tag Checker
- Enter a page URL, such as https://example.com/blog/post.
- Press Check. PithLab's server fetches the page (the first 1 MB, following up to 5 redirects) and reads its tags without running any scripts.
- Review the search and social previews, the tags found and the list of fixes, most serious first.
Examples
Input
<meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow">
Output
The robots meta tag says "noindex, nofollow", so search engines won't index this page.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a title and meta description be?
Google shows roughly 50 to 60 characters of a title and 120 to 160 characters of a description before cutting them off. It measures in pixels, so treat the counts as a guide and put the important words first.
Why don't I see tags my site adds with JavaScript?
The checker reads the HTML the server sends, without running scripts, like most social platforms do. If tags only appear after JavaScript runs, Facebook, X, Slack and others won't see them either, so render them on the server.
How is this different from the link preview simulator?
The link preview simulator works on HTML you paste, entirely in your browser. This checker fetches a live URL for you and adds search checks such as robots, hreflang, H1 headings and JSON-LD.
