Frequently asked questions
Is stripping HTML safe?
Yes. The HTML is treated as plain text and tags are removed with pattern matching. It is never loaded into the page, so scripts in it cannot run. Script and style blocks are removed completely.
What does Remove non-ASCII do with accented letters?
Accented letters are converted to their plain forms first, so café becomes cafe. Other characters outside ASCII, such as emoji or Chinese characters, are removed.
What is the difference between NFC and NFKC?
NFC joins letters and their accents into single characters without changing meaning. NFKC also replaces compatibility characters, such as the fi ligature becoming fi and full-width letters becoming normal ones.
Why would I change line endings?
Windows uses CRLF line endings while macOS and Linux use LF. Mixed endings can upset version control and scripts. Choose LF or CRLF to make every line the same.
Are copyright and trademark symbols treated as emoji?
No. ©, ® and ™ are kept when removing emoji, because they are usually part of the text rather than decoration.
