Frequently asked questions
How are words counted?
Words are detected with your browser's built-in language-aware word segmentation (Intl.Segmenter), so punctuation isn't counted and languages without spaces between words, such as Chinese and Japanese, are handled properly.
Do emoji count as one character?
Yes. Characters are counted as you see them, so an emoji, a flag or an accented letter counts as one character even if it is stored as several code points.
How is reading time calculated?
Reading time assumes 238 words per minute, the average for adults reading silently. Speaking time assumes 130 words per minute.
Is my text saved?
No. Your text stays in this browser tab and is never uploaded.
