Frequently asked questions

Does it handle daylight saving time?

Yes. Offsets come from your browser's built-in time zone database for the exact date you pick, so New York is UTC-05:00 in January and UTC-04:00 in July, and the southern hemisphere's opposite seasons are handled too.

What happens to a time that doesn't exist because the clocks went forward?

On the night clocks spring forward, times like 02:30 are skipped. The converter moves such a time forward by the length of the gap and shows a note. For a repeated hour when clocks go back, the first occurrence is used.

Why use names like Europe/London instead of GMT or BST?

IANA zone names follow a place's full history of offset and daylight saving rules, while abbreviations are ambiguous (CST is used in the US, China and Cuba) and change with the seasons.
