Convert Unix timestamps in seconds or milliseconds to ISO 8601, UTC and local dates, or turn a date into a timestamp. Detects the unit automatically.
How to use the Unix Timestamp Converter
- Paste a Unix timestamp. Values of 100 billion or more are read as milliseconds, smaller ones as seconds, or pick the unit yourself.
- Read the date as ISO 8601, in UTC and in your own time zone, plus how long ago or how far ahead it is.
- To go the other way, type a date such as 2026-10-19 14:30 and choose whether it is local time or UTC.
- Press Now to fill in the current time, and copy any value you need.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Unix timestamp?
The number of seconds since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970, not counting leap seconds. It is the same everywhere in the world at a given moment, which makes it handy for storing and comparing times.
How does it tell seconds from milliseconds?
By size. Current times are about 1.8 billion in seconds but 1.8 trillion in milliseconds, so values of 100 billion or more are treated as milliseconds. Choose the unit manually for timestamps far in the past or future.
What is the year 2038 problem?
Systems that store timestamps as signed 32-bit integers overflow at 2147483647, which is 03:14:07 UTC on 19 January 2038. Most modern systems use 64-bit values and are unaffected; this tool is too.
Why does the local time differ from UTC?
Local time applies your device's time zone and daylight-saving rules. The timestamp itself has no time zone; only its display does.
