Frequently asked questions
Which phones can scan a Wi-Fi QR code?
The built-in camera on iPhones (iOS 11 and later) and on most Android phones (Android 10 and later) recognises Wi-Fi codes and offers to join the network. Older Android phones may need Google Lens or a scanner app.
Should I pick WPA/WPA2 or WPA3?
Pick WPA/WPA2 for almost every router, including WPA2/WPA3 mixed (transition) mode. Only choose WPA3 only (SAE) if your router accepts WPA3 devices exclusively, as some older phones don't understand that code type.
Why are some characters shown with a backslash?
The Wi-Fi QR format uses semicolons, commas, colons, quotes and backslashes as separators, so those characters in your network name or password are escaped with a backslash. Phones remove the backslash when they join.
Is my Wi-Fi password sent anywhere?
No. The code is generated in your browser and the password never leaves your device. Remember that anyone who can see the printed code can join your network, so consider a separate guest network.
