Frequently asked questions
Why is it Alfa and Juliett, not Alpha and Juliet?
Those are the official ICAO and NATO spellings, chosen so that speakers of other languages pronounce them correctly. This tool spells them officially but also decodes Alpha, Juliet and Whisky.
What are Niner, Fife and Tree?
ICAO radiotelephony pronunciations for 9, 5 and 3, with Fower for 4. They keep numbers clear over a noisy radio, for example so nine is not confused with the German nein. Choose ICAO radio digits to use them, or standard digits for everyday spelling.
What happens to punctuation and accented letters?
Characters without a code word, such as punctuation or letters with accents, are kept as they are and listed under the result. Spaces between words become a slash so the word breaks are clear when read aloud.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, so nothing you type leaves your device.
